1,000 movie fans surveyed by Sky Movies named actor Johnny Depp as their ideal companion in a DVD watching marathon, according to The Guardian. That seems pretty odd since this “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” star is known to be a recluse when he’s not making movies. Actors Jim Carrey, Tom Cruise and Sean Penn may be more fun as movie-watching companions because they usually have a lot to talk about regarding their own films and those of their counterparts.
I would not want to sit on a couch and watch DVDs all day with Johnny Depp, especially when the time could be better used for more important tasks like getting him to read one of my screenplays. I would also try to record some type of promotional video featuring Depp, where he endorses an anti-piracy campaign by encouraging his fans to visit movie theaters and buy or rent DVDs instead of downloading them illegally or buying bootleg movies off of the street.
Earlier today, I walked and rode around in Philadelphia where a few guys and young ladies discussed how they would spend their time, if given 24 hours with Johnny Depp. Over at the Roxy Theater in Center City, Bernard Neary says that he would convince the actor to buy a condo in Rittenhouse Square to make the area more appealing.... “imagine walking in the park and finding Johnny Depp sitting on a bench, smoking a cigar”!
On Chestnut street, the young ladies at FYE had some adventure in store for the actor. Shea says it would be fun to go hiking with Depp or participate in some form of activity. Since he is probably bombarded with star-struck fanatics who want to talk about everything under the sun with him, Shea is not interested in using her 24 hours this way because she would “feel like a jerk asking him questions.”
Having not been out of the country yet, Ari at FYE would use her 24 ours with Johnny Depp to tour France....following the actor’s lead. Since Depp lives there, Ari has no doubt that he likely knows where all of the cool spots are to hang out in France. Getting Depp to take her to see indie movies would be on the itinerary.
As the last King Dong post for Johnny Depp this month, I would not feel right if Chellbee did not chime in on this topic, so I asked the King of Prussia Mall veteran what she would do if given 24 hours with him. Her response, and I have to type this verbatim, was “I’d certainly play Pirates of the Caribbean! I’d walk his plank any day!” which leaves me with Jeff at JAW Studios in Mt. Airy whose response brought on a few giggles.
His 24 hour visit would start by asking Depp “how are you able to pull some of the finest women in movies...with no teeth and bad breath,” since pirates who probably haven’t showered in days do not often have the same appeal as the George Clooney’s of the world when it comes to women. Afterward, Jeff would have lunch and dinner with Johnny Depp. During this time, he would tell Depp to let him drive his car in an attempt to be seen around town as a close friend of the A-list actor.
Based on the different and sometimes humorous responses, there are more ways for Johnny Depp to entertain or be of service to movie going audiences outside of the living room. It would be surprising if he considered such an act before returning home to France....I wonder if a Make-A-Wish foundation for adults is in order!
This post, dedicated to Alana at Writercize, is part of the King Dong series and is inspired by a previous 24 Hours with any Celebrity post.
