Insane Movies to Never Forget
Today is all about “maniacs, lunatics, psychos, crazed behavior or mentally tortured souls” according to The Bumbles Blog: ON MOVIES ~ Movie Madness..., who put a spin on the current basketball season of March Madness and asked us to share examples of films that feature madness on an insane level.
An old VHS tape that I have of “Instinct” starring Anthony Hopkins came to mind because while I only watched it maybe once or twice, it reminded me of how human beings should not be quick to judge or come to conclusions based on the little bit of information that you have on the surface. Hopkins plays a man who lived in the jungle until he was sent to prison for murder and Cuba Gooding Jr. co-stars as the psychiatrist who is supposed to get into the jungle man's head.
The suspense-thriller “Don't Say a Word” starring Michael Douglas and the late Brittany Murphy is another one that I would place among the top insane movies and would even go so far as to recommend it for those who haven't watched this movie.
Douglas plays a psychiatrist who has to get a series of numbers from an unknown girl (Murphy's character) suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, in order to save his kidnapped daughter. Murphy's haunting “I'll never tell...” line can be either funny or haunting depending on how you take it. Still, if this entire movie doesn't creep you out, then I don't know what will. In my opinion, “Don't Say a Word” is better than “Instinct” although both movies have really great leading actors.
“The Secret Window” is a runner up for this list of insane movies but I don't have any tidbits on it because I haven't watched this movie yet. This Johnny Depp film was recommended to me a while back so it's on my to-do list of films that I need to get up to date on.
What insane movies can YOU add to the list?
BTW:
Yeah, I forgot and skipped a week. My bad. Stay tuned for some really exciting interviews with an independent film director, more film festival Wednesdays posts and possibly the relaunch of the King Dong series.

I haven't seen any of the films you've mentioned here. Guess that's what makes this weekly meme valuable -- the exposure to new ideas & perspectives.
Lee, welcome to the Madlab Post and thanks for your comment. I'm not sure if "Instinct" was very popular, so it wouldn't surprise me if many people didn't watch that movie but I am surprised that you never saw "Don't Say a Word".
If you like suspense movies, I recommend the Michael Douglas one and if you like psyco stuff then I recommend the "Instinct" movie.
If you're into nostalgia in media, you can rent-to-own my VHS if you want. Just kidding. Unless, you really want to rent or buy it, lol.
I agree that exposure to new ideas and perspectives makes the weekly meme valuable for participants, readers and everyone involved overall.
I could never bring myself to rent Don't Say A Word because that "I'll never te-ell" line annoyed me from all of the preview commercials when it came out. But you say it is worthy of a view? Hmmm - maybe I will put it in the queue...
The Bumbles,
I understand how that line would be annoying, especially with the market saturation approach that Hollywood likes to do with most of their big movies. Now that you mention it, I can slightly recall so many commercials airing on television to promote this movie that it was almost hard to avoid it, which made it even more annoying.
Still, yes, I think that it's a worthwhile watch for an afternoon or evening of entertainment.
Did you know, you made a little rhyme there in your comment:
"worthy of a view?" and "put it in the queue"
I like it!
It could make for a good slogan or something for movie review posts.
The Secret Windows is now on my short list of "must watch" movies. I remember the trailer but at the time didn't think much of it. I'll have to correct this oversight asap!
Have you seen the movie The Number 23 with Jim Carrey? That's a great one not to be missed! Now, I don't want to spoil it for you, but the number "23" plays a major part in the movie ;-)
Herman,
Let me know what your review for Secret Window is when you watch it. It's rather, on my long list of "must watch" movies due to research for other films that I've been wanting to check out for some time, so you'll likely get around to watching it way before I do.
Nah, I haven't seen Jim Carrey's The Number 23 and to tell you the truth, I'm not used to watching him in serious roles and am more familiar with his comedy work.
If I can get enough balls to watch it, I will put it on my list. If The Number 23 is more thriller or suspense than horror, I'm more likely to check it out but if it's closer to the horror movie genre, I'm less likely to watch it.....not a big fan of horror.....but I do like Jim Carrey in a lot of the movies that he did before, so I'm willing to give it a chance.
