Characters on the Movie Title Card #atthemovies #DVD #netflix #blockbuster

UpdatedMondayMovieMemeGraphic

After a little mini vacation during the Smurdok's home renovation that is currently still in progress and coming along pretty well, our Monday Movie Meme is back in action.

While checking out movie theater showtimes recently, I thought about "Martha Marcy May Marlene," a movie about a woman who tries to start a new life after growing up in a cult. It is one of several films that I wanted to see, back in December but didn't get around to watching any of them. I will, however, use the flick as inspiration for this week’s Monday Movie Meme topic (because it’s um, simple, and...I have a lot of other things to do today): Role Call!

Share on your blog movies where names of the main characters double as the title of the film.
Easy, right? Yeah, I thought so too!
Here are my selections for the Role Call movie meme.

Jimmy and Judy
Rebellious teens go on a destructive road trip slash runaway journey that involves drugs, vandalism, cults, jail time and murder....oh, and a wedding. Things weren’t so peachy in Jimmy’s home life nor in Judy’s social life before these two outcasts became lovers either. Jimmy had the pleasure of walking in on his parents in a compromising position while Judy was introduced to the joys of school bullying. So yes, their environment is sorta a recipe for disaster but the good news is they recorded it all from their own point of view so we all get a front row seat to their screwed up and misguided world.

Wanda
For those who haven’t heard of this movie, I wish I could give you a brief overview of what it’s all about but I tuned out from my TV screen after popping this thing in the DVD player. Yes, it’s THAT boring. All I remember from watching “Wanda” is that she is a financially broke drifter who trades sex for alcohol, after leaving her husband and children. As much as I wanted to like “Wanda” after reading about it, I do not care for this film. “Wanda” fits right in line with the movies listed on my snorefest post about the most boring movies on DVD.

Runners Up: Bruce Almighty and Forrest Gump.

What other movies with their character names in the title have caught YOUR attention over the years?

Thinking cap on. Here goes:

- The Big Lebowski
- Sweeny Todd
- Predator
- Harry Potter and the something something something
- Coraline
- Hellboy
- Patton
- Napoleon Dynamite
- Donnie Brasco
- Pee-Wee's Big Adventure
- Rambo
- Rocky Balboa
- Forrest Gump

...and that's all I can think of at the moment. *Whew!*

Oh...have you seen The Tree Of Life? If not, it's well worth a viewing!

Herman,

You've come up with a mighty extensive list there that I'll have to draw from during a prospective Family Feud game (more on that at a later time).

I was just about to watch a few minutes of Napoleon Dynamite this past weekend when I noticed it on the TV listings. When that movie came out, I bought a keychain based on it but never used it. I think I'm going to write a future post about movie memorabilia that has gone to waste.

No, I haven't seen The Tree of Life. Is it a new movie? I'll look it up. If it came out a while ago, I'll be sure to put it on my Netflix or Blockbuster list. However, I DID watch the movie 1408 that you recommended on a post that I wrote last year (I think it was last year...couldn't be the year before last, could it? Either way, I finally watched it back in November). What a strange ol' horror that was! Lol.

Thanks for visiting!

Nicole, off topic, but I wanted to stop in to say hello and THANK YOU for the amazing compliment over on the A to Z guest post! Mind if I put it up on my author site with a link to you? Hope all is well!

On topic, I love movies about artists, so I'd say Pollock and Modigliani drew me in to watch them and kept me interested! I also loved Frieda. Apparently I have biopics on the mind. :)

Dale,

Thanks. I'm glad you like this week's topic.

Arlee,

Jerry McGuire is a great pick. I have that movie on DVD lying somewhere around my apartment. Who could forget all of those famous quotes that came from the movie, such as "Show me the money!" and "You had me at hello," the latter of which Beyonce borrowed and turned into a whole song for her Sasha Fierce album.

Alana,

Thanks for visiting. It's always a pleasure to see you here. I don't mind at all if you put my comment up on your author site. Go right ahead! :) I am flattered that you would want to post it.

On topic, Frieda is the only movie among your selections
that I am familiar with. I remember studying work of the artist when I was in high school. I'll have to look up Pollock and Modigliani. Biopics seem to be 'IN' these days, what with Leonardo DiCaprio's J. Edgar movie, Michelle Williams' My Week with Marilyn and Dominic Cooper's The Devil's Double. Maybe Dale or I will host Biopics as a topic for a future Meme :)

There do seem to be a ton of biopics out lately! I almost forgot to mention one of my all time faves which is entirely fictional ... Benny and Joon. Did you see that one? It has Johnny Depp, who of course as you know, I adore. I think it was from the late 80s... It is another art movie though. Must be on my mind right now!
