Monday Movie Meme - The Chase
I wonder if we give car chases in movies too much credit. They clearly are not the only game in town that can provoke action-packed, heart pounding thrills on screen. So, the theme of this week’s Monday Movie Meme is dedicated to the characters involved in getaways or heavy pursuits, on foot: The Chase.
Share on your blog or in the comments section, movies featuring an on-foot chase involving one or more of the main characters. They can be trying to run away from someone or something. They can be chasing other people or inanimate objects. So long as these on-screen chases are done without any form of transportation – be that a plane, train or automobile, you’re good to go. Here are my selections for this week’s The Chase theme.
Takers
Jesse is nimble, Jesse is quick, and Jesse cannot only jump over a candle stick, he can survive being hit by a car – multiple times, in this action thriller starring Chris Brown and Matt Dillon.
As a member of a sophisticated bank robbing team, Jesse remains unstoppable after leaping through glass windows and tumbling over fences, among other adventures, to get away from Detective Welles. Had I watched “Takers” just a year earlier, this movie character would have been fitting for my previous list of movies featuring Olympic runners.
The Bourne Ultimatum
A contract killer chases Nicky Parsons through the crowded streets and buildings of a Moroccan city when she tries to help Bourne, in this action thriller starring Matt Damon and Julia Stiles.
Bliss (Mutluluk)
As planned for my participation in the global discussion on human rights, for Blog Action Day 2013, this foreign film is partly why I chose the “chasing” theme.
There is a scene in “Bliss” where a girl who was scheduled to die in an honor killing, is chased through a field, by henchmen from her village.
What movies have YOU seen featuring a chase that takes place on foot?

Oh....toughie. Let's see, how about:
-Run Lola Run: A movie that's best described by it's title
-Run Fatboy Run: A similarly-named flick filled with....running ;-)
-The Shining: The final chase through the hedgerow maze
-The Naked Prey (1966): A man is chased through the deserts of Africa
-Westworld (1973): How do you outrun an unstoppable robot? (feat: Yul Brynner)
Whew! I did it! Heh...
Let's see. A few Will Smith movies come to mind. The foot chase in the first MIB is how he gets recognized for being athletically skilled, leading to his testing and joining of the infamous MIB. Then there's Enemy of the State where he's being chased some more. Then Will Smith gives chase after the bad guys after they nearly shoot his witness, his partner and his partner's wife.
Then let's not forget The Matrix. The first opening sequences will forever be etched in my head with Trinity kicking butt like no other then taking running jumps and leaps over rooftops and through a window to find her exit.
Great list and Bliss (Mutluluk) sounds chilling since it's her family. Jurassic Park, Minority Report and The Village come to mind.
Herman,
What a wild list you have there! Can't go wrong with "Run Lola Run" - good pick to start your list off, and you know, I still have yet to see "The Shining." The thought of watching that movie creeps me out. I know it's like classic Jack Nicholson in one of his best performances ever and whatnot but I just cannot bring myself to watch it....yet ;)
The fatboy movie has to be a joke, right? I'm gonna have to look that one up! lol. You always put me on to the most interesting flick choices...keeps me looking forward to the Monday Movie Meme each week.
Angela,
I think I only saw MIB once and although I don't remember that particular scene, MIB is a cool pick for this week's "chase" theme. Enemy of the State...woah! Now, THAT is one of those movies that puts the "C" in "Chase." One of my favorite quotes is from Gene Hackman when he told Will Smith...."you're either incredibly smart, or incredibly stupid." Who would have thought that Will Smith tends to be running in a lot of his movies?! You brought up an interesting thread of action here that seems to be prevalent among his list of films...and maybe even fun too...kinda a theme-within-a-meme and I like it!
Maurice,
Thanks and yeah it's so messed up when your family are the ones out for your head....there are some sensitivities and beautiful moments throughout the film where the main characters start to sorta come into their own sense of humanity and compassion that it makes it hard to watch them be pulled back down by their own cruel, oppressive and limiting beliefs or have to fight and try to survive against the backwards value system maintained by those around them. Jurassic Park is a great pick and Minority Report is one of those movies that make me mad, even though it's fiction. I can see how The Village would fit this "chasing" bill. Cool list for this week's meme!
