Monday Movie Meme - Ms. Officer...

Named after a favorite Lil’ Wayne song, the theme for this week’s Monday Movie Meme is influenced by a crime drama I watched over the weekend that had me wondering if Boston has a shortage of female cops.

Out of sheer curiosity, I then tried to figure out how many female movie characters, who were members of the police force, came to mind. This was no easy task, which brings us to our Monday Movie Meme theme: Ms. Officer

Share on your blog or in the comments section, movies featuring your favorite or most memorable women who are a part of law enforcement. This includes patrol cops, detectives, correctional officers and related workers involved in making arrests.

Here are my selections for this week’s Ms. Officer theme.

Miss Congeniality

An FBI agent goes undercover as a beauty pageant contestant to stop a terrorist attack, in this comedy starring Sandra Bullock, Benjamin Bratt and Michael Caine.

Stuck!

A cruel prison guard works her best at keeping a group of restless prisoners in line, throughout this women-in-prison drama starring Stacy Cunningham and Karen Black.

Firecracker

A police chief investigates a murder in her small town where traveling carnival shows and white picket fences hide years of child abuse and other shocking revelations, in this mystery drama starring Susan Traylor and Mike Patton.

What movies feature YOUR most memorable female cops?

When it comes to movies, I could only think of the recent Judge Dredd movie with Carl Urban where he and the new female rookie Judge had one heck of a first day.

But when it comes to TV series, well, there's Law and Order: SVU, The Closer, and even Southland and Rizzoli and Isles.

I have a hard time coming up with female police officers that aren't there for laughs. Yours are good though.

Angela,
It's a little odd that more female characters on the tube are cops than women in movies. You mentioned one of my all time favorite shows that have female cops...Law & Order SVU. Hell yes! Detective Benson is the bomb! If we were doing TV, I'd also add my other faves Without a Trace, Third Watch, Flashpoint, the entire CSI franchise and the reality tv show COPS (of course, can't leave that one out. Ha!)....I could watch these shows back-to-back for hours on end if I was on a rainy vacation...or heck, a clear skies vacation too ;)

Maurice,
No worries. Everyone can benefit from a good laugh or two. Your picks could add some useful dimension to the ones listed above. This week's theme is all inclusive! :)

Love all three of these movies. Especially Miss Congeniality!

Been awhile since I've been here and I've missed the movie action. Trying to do better but it may still take awhile to get back into the swing of blogging.

There are quite a number of films I've seen that fit this category, but unfortunately I can't recall many of them. How about Angel Eyes with Jennifer Lopez--didn't she play a cop in that one. Then there was a film about river cops in Pittsburg but I can't recall the name or stars (Bruce Willis was one maybe?). I think that film featured a female cop costarring along the male lead.

Also I've seen several films about female prisons where there are tough mean female guards or matrons. Those are kind of a hoot, but I recall seeing one earlier this year that was made in the 40's or 50's I think and it was kind of good.

I'm so bad at remembering titles.
