David Duchovny and a Dare

'D' is for "David Duchovny"
A to Z Challenge
Today's installment for the A to Z challenge is a list of three things that I learned about actor David Duchovny since New Years 2011. You know that game, 2 Truths and a Lie? Well, let's play a game of three facts and a dare! I only recently found out about two of these three David Duchovny facts. Guess which one of these facts I already knew prior to the start of the A to Z challenge and I will write a future blog post on the subject of your choice. To play, add your guess to the comments section.

The Doll for David Duchovny Fans
There is a doll based on David Duchovny's “The X-Files” character, FBI Agent Fox Mulder. This product is part of a Barbie & Ken gift set that also includes a female doll based on his partner, Scully. Although Mattel recalled the original set and released a second version later featuring adjustments to the Scully doll, it appears that David Duchovny as Mulder inspired Ken doll is the same in both sets.

"House of D"

Directed by (and written, edited and starring) David Duchovny, the film “House of D” is about an American illustrator who lives in Paris. This artist returns home to come to terms with problems from his childhood that he escaped but must face on the path to self-discovery. “House of D” also stars Robin Williams and singer Erykah Badu but it was not received well by critics and failed at the box office. However, it has been available on DVD and video streaming for some time. The movie poster features images of Williams and Badu but the DVD cover art for “House of D” prominently features David Duchovny and Williams but no Badu. In fact, she's even removed from the title credits on the DVD.

Deception of “The X-Files” Producers
David Duchovny sued producers at Twentieth Century Fox for selling reruns of “The X-Files” to it's own affiliate networks for much less than this show is worth in syndication. His claims were that producers and “The X-Files” creator cheated him out of millions in profits by not shopping the TV show around to other networks on purpose to increase the company's own bottom line, causing those who had percentage points in “The X-Files” (such as himself) to lose out on revenue.

Update(Thursday, April 6, 2011):
And the winner is......Arlee Bird from Tossing It Out. This player had the correct answer/guess with the doll that Mattel released a few years ago. Prior to April and the start of the A to Z challenge, I already knew about the David Duchovny X-Files doll. I do not have one of these dolls though. If you want to buy me one, lol, you're very welcome to do that. I will be contacting you soon regarding your blog post prize.

Congratulations to Arlee Bird and thanks again for playing this 3 Facts and a Dare game during the A to Z challenge!

Corn Casserole and A (Steven King or Steve Balderson) Movie

'C' is for "Corn Casserole" in this A to Z challenge post.

Allow me to offer you some Dinner and a Movie choices based on two films that come to mind when Corn Casserole is the subject of the moment:

Children of the Corn,A to Z Challenge

Children of the Corn
Some relatives introduced me to this movie when I was younger and after watching "Children of the Corn", I added it to my list of the scariest movies ever made. Some of you may disagree and if so, you've probably watched more horror films than I. Therefore, I welcome you to contest this in the comments section of this post by letting me know what you think is one of the scariest films ever.....and this movie MUST be better than "Children of the Corn"...or else, why even mention it?

Steve Balderson,A to Z Challenge,Casserole Club

Casserole Club
Ironically, director Steve Balderson's upcoming film about housewives in the 60s centers around food....specifically, casseroles. That makes this flick a perfect choice for your dinner and a movie activities. You could also plan a themed party around the film for your friends or close family members.

Steve Balderson,A to Z Challenge,Casserole Club
The "Casserole Club" stars Karen Black and Kevin Richardson from the Backstreet Boys. This movie is scheduled for a 2011 release, so you can plan ahead to have a night out on the town by checking out a "Casserole Club" screening if it plays in or near your town OR you can order the DVD for a night in, whenever the DVD is released.

Here is the "Casserole Club" Movie Trailer to enjoy in the meantime:

No Dinner and a Movie night would complete without food of course, so if you're interested in trying something new, skip the popcorn and soda in favor of this corn casserole recipe by Paula Dean that I found from the Food Network while doing a search to find out if such a dish even exists (yeah, um, I've never had any type of casserole before, let alone corn casserole).

Thanks to Tossing It Out for running such a fun and challenging series.

Baby Shower DVDs for Facebook Fanatics

'B' is for Baby in my addition to the A to Z Challenge

This is very fitting since I am, coincidentally, attending a baby shower today which got me thinking about strange baby names that people give their children and movie director Robert Rodriguez came to mind because his kids have pretty unexpected names. Among his five children, (and in no particular order with regard to age) their names are:

Rocket (boy)
Rebel (boy)
Rogue (boy)
Racer (boy)
and Rhiannon (girl)

As different as the names of this Grindhouse "Planet Terror" (2007) and "Machete" (2010) director's kids are, none of them are more strange or unexpected than that guy in Egypt who named his baby Facebook. So, if I attended the baby shower celebrating his kid and gave the parents "The Social Network" DVD as a baby shower gift, would this be appropriate gifting etiquette?

I say YES!
"The Social Network" won the most Oscars this year, including Best Picture, so it's an acclaimed baby shower gift.

Would YOU deem "The Social Network" DVD as an appropriate baby shower gift for a kid (a baby girl, at that) named Facebook?

If not, what kind of gift would you bring to the shower?

Since the baby is a girl the name selection is a little awkward because Facebook could likely work for a boy growing up, while Twitter may more fitting for a girl....since we're talking social networking baby names here.

What are some of the most outrageous baby names that YOU were introduced to?
