5 Minutes in Johnny Depp Land

Word games can fight boredom, laziness and moments of being unmotivated to write. I found this out last weekend after timing myself to find out how many words I could come up with from Johnny Depp's name.

After five minutes past, it was interesting to notice that I found 10 words that could be made from his name but writing a post that consists of nothing else but a list of words would be rather corny, so here are some Johnny Depp related facts to go along with a five minute word list based on this actor. I'll add more information throughout the week if I find any of relevance to this post.

Hop
Where box office sales are concerned, the Johnny Depp voiced animated film "Rango" beat the bunny favorite "Hop" that was released around the Easter holiday this year.

Dye
After dying her hair to land a small role as an extra in Johnny Depp's gangster film "Public Enemies," actress Cary Mulligan now regrets doing so because she says that the chemicals damaged her hair so much that she had to cut her tresses off.

Pod

John
The actor's real name is John Christopher, which I did not know but I'm sure his diehard fans already knew. His son is named John Christopher III but they call him "Jack"

Phony
Johnny Depp is among those listed in Pop Eater's "Best Fake British Accents" for role in "Pirates of the Caribbean."

Pony
The My Little Pony company released a toy based on Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" movie.

Joe
In a 2009 Seventeen magazine interview, singer Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers mentioned an interest in an acting career in movies while also citing Johnny Depp as his role model.

Pep
Earlier this month, Johnny Depp was at Disneyland, where fans paid $1,000 to attend the premiere of "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" during an event that the L.A. Times called a "pop culture pep rally" complete with a concert, dinner, other live performances and a chance to meet some of the cast.....including our May King Dong himself!

Hoe

Joy

Seven down, three to go!

If you have something to match this word list, feel free to add it in your comments.

Katharine Hepburn Who?

Photobucket

In this weeks Monday Movie Meme, The Bumbles welcomes participants to share "favorite moments, memories or films featuring Katharine Hepburn" but I'm not too familiar with this actress. Now, Audrey Hepburn rings the bell, but Katharine Hepburn? Nope! While doing some brief reading up on her filmography to find out who she is, I noticed that she did that movie called "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" with Sidney Poitier.

Even though I read about this movie somewhere, maybe in some type of magazine or newspaper article around the time that "Guess Who" with Ashton Kutcher and Bernie Max was released, I still never watched the movie and vaguely familiar with it. That leaves me to highlighting the only milestone moment that would be deemed as a favorite for many film fanatics and fans of the actress in general.....and this would be her commemorative stamp.

Monday Movie Meme,WordCount Blogathon

In March 2010, the U.S. Postal Service issued a stamp honoring Katharine Hepburn as part of their Legends of Hollywood series. Later that Month, The Kent State University Museum adopted it as the official stamp for their exhibit dedicated to Hepburn's costumes that she wore in Broadway and film productions. The stamp was used on all correspondence related to the exhibition.

So after trying to learn more about Katharine Hepburn, I also find out that there was a Hollywood legends stamp series that I also knew nothing about? Boy am I behind on the news....I could've used some Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland AND...Audrey Hepburn stamps!

The Year of Johnny Depp

This is the year of Johnny Depp, actor extraordinaire.
He has more going on than "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," for those of you who care.

WordCount Blogathon,King Dong,Actors

2011 marked the announcement of his role in a remake of "The Lone Ranger" for the big-screen.
Johnny Depp is set to play the character of Tonto and whether this was the right casting choice or not remains to be seen.

He has also been the talk of the town for making a cameo appearance in an upcoming film adaptation of "21 Jump Street" reported to be released next year.
Fans of 80s TV shows may not want to miss his return because this "21 Jump Street" appearance seems to be brief, to hear him tell it but, how brief, you ask? Well, that still remains unclear.

So, cheers to Johnny Depp, who I have the pleasure of also announcing as the May 2011 King Dong of The Madlab Post.
He succeeds Vincent D'Onofrio on the throne for special highlights in the upcoming weeks on a man with box office draw and a diverse fan base from coast to coast.
