Monday Movie Meme – Say Cheese!
My apologies for last week’s missing theme. Let’s get this Monday Movie Meme started with a new topic: Say Cheese!
Share on your blog or in the comments section, movies featuring photographers. This can include those who do it professionally as well as characters who are hobbyists.
Here are my selections for this week’s Say Cheese! theme.
Road to Perdition
Although it’s been a long time since I’ve watched this crime thriller starring Tom Hanks, I could swear there is a guy who takes pictures of dead people or something, in the movie. Correct me if I’m wrong about this though!
In Search of a Midnight Kiss
Guy meets girl who loves photographing abandoned shoes, in this romantic comedy directed by Alex Holdridge.
Born into Brothels
Filmmakers teach kids in Calcutta how to use still cameras to capture their experiences, which leads to the children’s’ growing interest in photography in this documentary directed by Zana Briski and Ross Kauffman.
Love Jones
Man meets woman who starts working as a magazine photographer but not before she starts snapping nude photos of him in this romantic drama starring Larenz Tate and Nia Long.
Blood Diamond
A journalist uses her photography skills to ease a potentially hostile situation in this thriller starring Jennifer Connelly, Djimon Hounsou and Leonardo DiCaprio. I know there are other scenes where she takes pictures, but, the one that comes to mind right now is when a group of village warriors are skeptical about her, Danny Archer and Solomon’s intentions. Oh, and there’s also the scene later in “Blood Diamond” where she takes some investigative photos but you’ll have to watch the movie to find out what that’s all about.
What movies have YOU seen that feature photographers?
Also, I’m over at the A-to-Z Challenge Blog today, in the feature: Meet Your Co-Hosts – A Word (or Two) about Nicole. Check it out to learn some things that you didn’t know about me.

Thee are great Nicole, but it's "Memento" hands down for me. Photographs are an important part of the narrative from the opening scene to the final reveal. Plus, it's photographs that helps keep the main character grounded.
I can only think of The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty for the time being. If I think of any more I'll post them up.
Dale.
I love the pics of the characters saying cheese and being photographed! I also can't think of any film as an example of photographers as protagonists or part of the story .. but I enjoyed what you wrote about those films. Great post, thank you. Do you think 'cheese' is the best way to make people smile? I reckon it's effective!
The one that comes to my mind is rom com Ghost of girlfriends past. :) But I loved Bang Bang Club the most.
For some reason, the movie Seven pops into mind, where the killer left photographs as clues for the detectives. Yesh...it's been years since I've seen that flick. I think I might have to pop in the blu-ray this weekend. "What's in the box?!" Heh...
One Hour Photo with Robin Williams - psychological thriller with Robin Williams, that kept me on the edge of my seat!

Maurice,
You know "Memento" is an excellent choice for this week's meme. I wouldn't have thought of it and am glad you brought it up. I just could not watch "Memento," for the life of me. It was so annoying that I turned it off after only a few scenes in. Maybe I'll take a look at it again sometime in the future.
Dale,
That Walter Mitty film has Ben Stiller in it, right? PLEASE tell me what the movie is about. I've watched the trailers and walked passed the posters in movie theaters and still had difficulty pinpointing the nature of the story. Interesting choice for this week's meme. Now I'm curious!
Susan Scott,
Yes I think saying "cheese" is an effective way to make people smile. Would I consider it to be the best way? Dunno. Sometimes, jokes are also a good way to go. I guess it all depends on who's shooting and who's posing. Thanks for visiting :)
MJ,
When you mentioned "One Hour Photo," I thought it might be a comedy because thinking of Robin Williams makes funny movies come to mind, for some odd reason. I'm gonna have to queue your pick up on my rental list...there's nothing more exciting than a movie that keeps viewers on their roes. Thanks for playing along in this week's meme!
