Monday Movie Meme – The Musician’s Muse
The theme for this week’s Monday Movie Meme is all about the videos that are made around themes from films:
The Musician’s Muse.
Share on your blogs or in the comments section, movies that were used as the muse for themes in music videos by singers, rock stars and other artists. Here are my selections for this week’s The Musician's Muse theme.
A Clockwork Orange
The first time I watched Rihanna’s music video for her song “You Da One,” it was clear that she, along with her production and design team, were channeling one of Stanley Kubrick’s most unforgettable works.
There is no way one can watch Rihanna’s video and not think of “A Clockwork Orange.”
The Man in the Iron Mask
The producers behind Dru Hill’s “These Are the Times” couldn’t be more obvious in their attempt at recreating the themes from this action adventure film starring Leonardo DiCaprio to promote an R&B single.
What movies have YOU seen depicted in a music video, in one way or another?

Music videos are always the most clever when based on famous films. Beautiful.
Okay, so I immediately thought of Busta Rhymes music video channeling Coming to America:
If you really wanna party with me
Let me see just whatcha got for me
Put all your hands where my eyes can see
Straight buckwhilin' in the place to be.
Maurice,
Yes it's always interesting to see how the team behind a video interprets a film to showcase a musical work. A case of art imitating art...when done well, music videos really step their game up when paying homage to films, in a sense that it kinda adds a new dimension to the song that its based upon.
Angela,
OMG what a perfect selection you have here! The Busta Rhymes/Coming to America blend was so fun in its celebration of themes from the movie. You took me back to some classics! -- which reminds me of the other day when Eddie Murphy was a guest on Arsenio Hall's new show and they were talking about why there wasn't a sequel to the movie. I'm so glad they didn't make one and I haven't heard Busta's song or watched the video in so long that I was jammin' while reading your comment, along with some quick flashbacks of his video :)
