Monday Movie Meme - Picking Teams
The theme for this week’s Monday Movie Meme is based on today’s signups opening for a Spring Blogathon that I’m Co-Hosting -- the 2014 Blogging from A-to-Z Challenge. Given the grand scale of this annual online event (founded by Arlee Bird at Tossing It Out), the Co-Hosts are seeking minions/helpers to assist us with the behind the scenes grunt work that goes into managing such a popular blogathon that stretches across seas. So if you are game for visiting an extra ten to twenty blogs per week and help with the general promotion of the challenge, or know a blogger who might be up to the task, let me know. Now, let’s talk movies: Picking Teams.
Share on your blog or in the comments section, movies featuring people assembling teams to complete one important, urgent or complex task. Maybe a group is looking to add someone to their team. Maybe there is a person or pair of people who are trying to assemble a team for something big. Whatever the case is, the situation clearly calls for more hands on deck. Here are my selections for this week’s Picking Teams theme.
Ocean’s Eleven
A career criminal gathers his friends to rob Vegas casinos in this comedy starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and the late Bernie Mac.
Armageddon
N.A.S.A and the U.S. Military assembles a group of blue collar and white collar workers to save the planet in this sci-fi action movie starring Bruce Willis Ben Affleck, Billy Bob Thorton and Liv Tyler.
Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Hobbits, an Elf, a Dwaf, two men and a Wizard join together in a fight against evil in this adventure fantasy movie starring Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom and Viggo Mortensen.
What movies featuring the assembly of teams would YOU add to this list?
Have YOU signed up for the 2014 A-to-Z Challenge?
Would YOU like to be one of my minions?

Time to power up the superteams!
The Avengers (yeah, I know. Obvious choice)
Moon (w/Sam Rockwell, forms a team of one...if you've seen this amazing flick then you know what I'm talking about)
Gandhi (can forming a unifying body out of a nation be considered a "team"? ;-))
X-Men (take your pick of 'em, but I'll reference the first when they're getting the team together)
The Losers (band of highly-trained military misfits go on a zany adventure)
The Expendables (either 1 or 2)
Wow...I had so much fun with this topic I went beyond my typical 5 picks. Heh...
As one of your helpers last year, I can definitely say that helping with the A - Z Challenge is worth it.
Herman,
That's quite a list you have there with some SUPER choices, indeed. Even with Avengers (of course, any assembly of superhero teams wouldn't seem complete without it), The X-Men still tops them all for me, as I've seen a few X-Men flicks over the years. I still haven't watched "Moon" with Rockwell and I think it's sitting somewhere in my Netflix queue. I remember your mentioning it a while back and I went in and looked it up but as the months went by, I've been slow to keep up with my rentals, so it fell by the wayside. One of these days, man, one of these days...
Can you believe I haven't seen The Expendables?! When it came out, I had doubts about it because I thought it might be reaching a bit too much in terms of that all-star cast of action heroes. Then, I considered watching it only to check out Bruce Willis but still didn't get up the nerve to check out either of the two Expendable releases. It's a shame, I know.
MJ,
Thanks for attesting to it being worthwhile for bloggers to help out with the A-to-Z Challenge. Your pretty much irreplaceable as a helper and I'm glad that you've upgraded to Co-Host this year, so we can work side by side on the nitty gritty details. I didn't realize how challenging finding quality folks who are reliable could be; it's all in a days work though. I decided to try and outsource my call for helpers, seeking out people who I either already know or folks who I've worked with before; the team that I'm putting together is shaping up nicely. Thanks for visiting!
Picking teams? You've got me stumped on this one. Offhand I can't think of any films where picking teams was involved. I've seen some, but I can't think of any.
